Licensed in California, Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT 38442), I’m a Master Certified Relational Life Therapist, and Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP). I help couples, families, groups, and individuals.

I have extensive training in: Couple Therapy, Relationship Coaching, Feedback-Informed Treatment, Deliberate Practice, Marriage Education, Discernment Counseling, Individual, and Group therapy.

Couple Therapy: At Relational Life Institute, I’ve trained extensively in Relational Life Therapy, or RLT (Relationallife.com). This therapy is deeply insightful, provocative, and empathic- and few other approaches positively transform the dynamic of a relationship as quickly.

My approach is also influenced by Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), whose fundamental message is simple: you improve your relationship by creating emotional safety and connection. EFT empowers couples with steps that empower them in becoming attuned, responsive, and deeply connected to each other.

Marriage Education: I am a Certified PAIRS therapist (founded on the work of Virginia Satir, George Bach, and Lori H. Gordon). This innovative work is an in-depth, hands-on, educational approach that empowers proactive couples to build and maintain a strong foundation. I am also trained in Scott Stanley’s PREP and in Sherrod & Phyllis Miller’s Couple Communication.

Individual Therapy: When working with individuals, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, ACT, for short. ACT is a proven therapy that combines a fresh understanding of the human condition with exciting new tools and strategies. It is an action-oriented therapy. If you struggle with painful thoughts and feelings and are ready to develop a healthier approach to them, ACT is right for you.

I studied with Pia Mellody from The Meadows Treatment Center, whose advanced training in co-dependence, love addiction/avoidance, relational trauma, and family systems has rounded out my training.

Group Therapy: I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) and have trained at American Group Psychotherapy Association and at Louis Ormont’s The Center for Group Studies in New York. I am a member of Los Angeles Group Psychotherapy Society and past president of Group Psychotherapy Association of Southern California. I have led various types of psychotherapy groups for fifteen years.

I have a number therapeutic methods at my disposal, but rather than take a cookie cutter approach to therapy, I customize treatments to meet the needs of my clients. Therapy is not about passively being told what to do or how to think, but about becoming empowered with the skills to solve your own problems. That is the work we do in our sessions.

I have a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from California Graduate Institute, a Master’s Degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute, and a B..A. from Brigham Young University in Theatre Arts and Speech Education.

Savanna Zar, Associate MFT

Are you in need of a change but not sure how to get there? My name is Savanna Zar and I’m an associate marriage and family therapist. I have been working in the mental health field since 2016. I provide counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and children. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and eating disorders, in a variety of settings such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, and residential facilities. I am a certified MAP therapist. MAP (Managing and Adapting Practice) is an evidence-based practice that involves several decision and practice support tools to assist in the treatment of children’s mental health. My passion is helping people work towards internal and external consistency, so they can get to a place where they feel confident expressing their needs in a direct, and honest manner. Part of our work together will be developing an understanding of your emotional needs that may be impacting your relationships. I believe that most conflicts are actually opportunities for vulnerability and connection; it just takes some skills and practice to be able to tap into those opportunities. Please call me to schedule an appointment.

Victoria Zal, MA, AMFT

You matter and I would love to be there with you on your quest to find answers and heal your wounds, triggers and trauma and to empower your growth and positivity under the weight of difficult times that currently feel hopeless, lonely and dark.

I am passionate about improving relationships, communication, understanding how family and parenting had shaped our world and strongly resonate with attachment and psychodynamic theories. Depending on the issue and goals of treatment I utilize CBT and DBT approaches.

As a female, mother, immigrant and a student of life I have first hand knowledge of a variety of issues you may be going through.
I also have experience with uniquely brilliant minds of those often misunderstood highly gifted, individuals on autistic and ADHD spectrums as well as those who live with them and love them through the tough challenges these gifts bring. My experience with dating, marriage, high conflict divorce and parenting through it all brings a lot of expertise as well.

While I’m endlessly fascinated with the field of Psychology, in my free time I paint, photograph, read, walk on the beach and enjoy my teenage kids.

Love and Compassion WILL save the world.
