Relationship Therapy for One Person
Come by yourself!
Research shows that by changing your own behavior, there’s a 91% chance your partner’s behavior will also change.
Building a healthy relationship starts when one person decides to clean up his/her own side. Even if you feel really stuck in a bad situation, there are things you can do to fix yourself. That way you’re building up rather than tearing down your marriage. You’ll focus on the parts that you can change, and let go of the rest.
Systems Perspective: We’ll help you to understand how relationships function in patterned ways, and how partners influence one another. This is known as a systems perspective. It’s most effective to keep in mind the entire relationship system when you work in therapy. Again, it may not feel like it, but there are many things you can do to make your relationship better. That’s what we’ll focus on.
Marriage-Friendly is a term that was coined by Dr. Bill Doherty when he noticed that individual therapists tended to encourage their clients to end their relationships. Marriage-Friendly is a designation for a therapist whose bias leans toward keeping couples together rather than encouraging divorce. At HRCS, we understand that to stay or go is your profound and personal decision, but we are unabashedly Marriage-Friendly. We are here to support healthy marriages and families when that’s what you want to do, and it’s safe and possible.
